We have fabulous news to share! In April, we moved into our new headquarters located at 2142 Jerrold Avenue, ending our 28-year run at 1375 Fairfax in Bayview. Yes, can you believe it — 28 years! We sold our Fairfax building and were able to convert a warehouse space at 2142 Jerrold, also in Bayview, into an incredible office that houses our program and operations teams — this means administrative folks, Intake, HDM, Social Work, Nutrition, and Volunteer Departments as well as administrative staff.

Our new HQ, affectionately known as The Wong HQ — named in honor of the incredible generosity of Rosemary Wong (our Board Chair) and her husband, Harry — has room for us to spread out, and with this move, we made sure to keep our volunteers in mind as well as staff!

For instance, we have a wonderful new Lounge for volunteers to enjoy hot coffee and snacks after their early morning bagging thousands of pounds of groceries for our Home Delivered Grocery Program. Also, we now have room for some of the new Volunteer Programs we are creating to lessen senior isolation by making calls to an isolated senior or relaying Happy Birthday wishes! Visit our website in June for more details about how to get involved in these new Volunteer Programs.

We had many great years at our old location on Fairfax, but this change is a great new chapter in the ongoing growth and evolution of Meals on Wheels San Francisco.

On April 14, 2023, under bright, sunny skies, we officially celebrated the opening of The Wong HQ!

It was heartwarming to see so many supporters, city and corporate partners, colleagues, and Meals on Wheels staff attend the dedication. Speeches from District 10 Supervisor, Shamann Walton, former MOWSF CEO Ashley McCumber, Board Vice Chair, Jose Allen, Sally Kay from Amazon, and guests of honor, Rosemary and Harry Wong, highlighted the impact Meals on Wheels continues to have in our community, as well as the personal connections each share with our organization and mission.

In addition to Rosemary and Harry, we want to recognize the following individuals for helping to make The Wong HQ possible:

  • Dan McGue
  • Stuart Corvin
  • Keith DeBrine
  • RNW Architects
  • OPI Construction
  • Jazz Pharmaceuticals
  • San Francisco PUC – Steve Ritchie, Dennis Herrera
  • Shamann Walton and Percy Burch
  • David Linnell and Frank Scott, MOWSF

Maxine Inspires Positivity and Dignity

In 2019 when I first met Maxine, her positive outlook on the difficulties many older adults face as they age inspired me. “Aging, to me, is really a state of mind," she told me back then. "As we age, we start to have issues with our bodies, but everything is about how...
