Good Neighbor Program

BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR TO A SENIOR IN YOUR COMMUNITY!

Do what any good neighbor would do: help take out the trash, buy groceries, sort mail, fix a broken table, take the dog for a walk, or deliver nutritional supplements and other necessities, like microwaves and blankets. There are countless to be a Good Neighbor to a Meals on Wheels senior.

Why Volunteer? Change a senior’s life; change your own. Simple tasks and errands are so critical to our homebound senior clients and are often the start of a meaningful friendship for you.
Where? Good Neighbors volunteer in every neighborhood of San Francisco. Volunteers who make deliveries pick up their items at our office, Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
How? All Good Neighbors must attend an Orientation and complete an application and background check before volunteering. Good Neighbors who drive to deliver must have a clean DMV record and current auto insurance.
When: Most Good Neighbors set their own schedule. We ask for 5 hours’ commitment per month with a minimum commitment of six months.

SERVICES OUR GOOD NEIGHBORS PROVIDE:

Friendly Visitor: Spend time with a senior at their home.
Shopping: Help a senior by going grocery shopping for them.
Client Needs: Deliver critical items, help fix a household item, or teach a senior a new skill.
Dietary Supplements: Deliver nutritional supplements (such as Ensure) to clients as needed.
