Every Visit Matters
For some seniors, the knock at the door from Daniel may be their only interaction that day.
That’s why Daniel knows that his role as a Meals on Wheels delivery driver is about more than simply dropping off food.
“We’re one of the faces that they see throughout the day,” Daniel says. “So we provide the best care, service, and special attention to older adults in our city.”
Before arriving with a delivery, Daniel and the team often call seniors to let them know they’re on the way and to ask whether they have any concerns. Once they arrive, he takes time to check in and make sure seniors are doing well.
“It’s more than just dropping off meals,” Daniel explains. “You’re doing a wellness check as you’re there.”
Drivers pay attention to how seniors are feeling and whether anything seems out of the ordinary. If someone appears unwell or needs additional support, Daniel reports those concerns back to supervisors, helping to ensure that seniors stay safe and cared for in their homes.
The consistency of those visits matters deeply. The familiar routine, the friendly face, and the conversation are all simple moments of connection that can brighten someone’s entire day.
Our team also finds small ways to make those visits even more meaningful, including celebrating birthdays and special moments with seniors throughout the year.
Your generosity equips drivers like Daniel with meals — and so much more — for our older neighbors across San Francisco.
