For Percy, Every Meal Delivered
Is One Less Worry
At 87, Percy has worn a lot of hats: delivery driver, husband, caregiver, and now, a grateful recipient of Meals on Wheels San Francisco.
For nearly a year, Percy has relied on Meals on Wheels to help care for his wife, Paula, who needs around-the-clock support. With a team of caregivers, his daughters, and his own steady presence, Percy is determined to honor Paula’s wish: to stay in the home they love.
“She’s happy to be here at home,” Percy says.
For a man who’s managing as much as Percy is, that reliability isn’t minor. It’s one less worry in a day full of them. Over time, Percy has gotten to know the drivers who arrive at his door each week and noticed when his regular driver, Jorge, was out after a bicycle accident. After months of weekly visits, these aren’t strangers arriving at the door.
“They’re not just a person who comes to the door, drops off the food, and leaves,” Percy says.
“I’m getting to know them, and they tell me about themselves, too.” These visits remind Percy and Paula that they’re surrounded by people who care.
Your generosity makes it possible for older adults like Percy and Paula to do something many of us take for granted: remain in a beloved home, surrounded by the life they’ve built.
