What Could Make a Senior Cry Tears of Joy?

Dear MOWSF Supporter,

When I first began Spring Cleaning All Year Round, I had no idea of the impact the program would have. The benefit seemed simple and obvious. By tidying the home of a homebound senior we would help make someone’s home a safer and healthier place to live.

Group leader Robyn Roberts (center, in white MOWSF T-shirt) stands with a team of seven volunteers from PG&E. Together, they cleaned a client home in Bayview.

But even after the first few cleanings, it became apparent how much more this program meant to the seniors we served. They would thank the volunteers profusely. Many even cried. One client, Rosa, kept calling the volunteers “angels,” as tears ran down her face.

And then there is the gift of interaction. Most cleanings don’t end when the dusting is done. Volunteers and seniors chat and trade stories, getting to know someone they might otherwise never have met. The kindness of these volunteers has opened many isolated seniors to our companionship volunteer programs by demonstrating that a volunteer has the potential to be a friend.

I am humbled and inspired by the efforts of so many people who have made this program possible. And to the companies and organizations who have donated supplies, training space, snacks and more. It is my great wish that Spring Cleaning All Year Round will continue to connect volunteers and seniors for years to come.

We have a wonderful opportunity to have every dollar we raised doubled by a generous donor through July 31st. I hope you’ll consider making even a small donation to help this program thrive.
