FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — The Walmart Foundation has awarded a $30,000 grant to Meals On Wheels of San Francisco (MOWSF). These funds will help fight hunger and improve nutrition for low-income seniors throughout the city.
“This year, Meals On Wheels of San Francisco will deliver more than 1.4 million meals to 3,300 homebound seniors,” said Ashley McCumber, CEO and Executive Director of MOWSF. “This generous gift from Walmart will help ensure these seniors receive two healthy and balanced meals each day. It will also allow us to provide safety checks and nutrition education. Support from corporate partners like Walmart is critical to addressing the needs of our growing population, offering desperately needed hunger relief to elderly residents across our city.”
More than 13,000 San Francisco seniors live at or below the federal poverty level. Many must make tough choices on how to divide their limited incomes between the costs of food, rent and medications.
By providing 14 health-appropriate, nutritious meals a week, driver safety checks, and nutrition services, MOWSF, is able to help seniors live healthier and safer in their homes.
In December 2013, MOWSF received its first generous grant from the Walmart Foundation. We are grateful for the organization’s continued support.
