This March marks the one-year anniversary of Meals On Wheels of San Francisco’s Spring Cleaning All Year Round program. The program began with a simple mission — to help MOWSF clients who have no help at home live in a cleaner and safer environment.

After just one year, it has turned into a successful community effort, a testimony to the amazing teamwork of our volunteers and sponsors. Sports Basement has been providing space for the volunteer trainings and meetings. Whole Foods Market SoMa has generously donated environmentally friendly cleaning supplies. Clif Bar has been keeping volunteers fueled with energy bar donations. And more than 220 individual and corporate-group volunteers have given their time and their elbow grease to brighten 44 client homes. This month, Fiji Water has joined as an in-kind donor and will be supplying water for volunteers during cleanings.

“It’s a fantastic way to spend a weekend because it takes so little of my time,” says Robyn Roberts, a volunteer group leader. “But seeing the difference it makes in people makes this volunteering opportunity so rewarding to me.”

Special thanks goes to the Winifred Johnson Clive Foundation for its incredibly generous grant of $15,000. “It’s really what got this program off the ground and made it happen,” says Danie Belfield, MOWSF Manager of Volunteer Engagement.
