John with Kaylin
John, 68, has a past filled with adventure. He came to the city for the Summer of Love, and was part of the Haight-Ashbury scene in the 60s. In the early 70s, he escaped the city and lived in a teepee for nearly a year on land around Mount Tamalpais. Before he ended up in San Francisco, John attended school in Mexico City, where many professors at the time were experimenting with the psychological effects of drugs on the brain. John eventually became a cabinetmaker, and much of his apartment is furnished with pieces he made himself.
Kaylin is in her third year at the University of San Francisco. She loves writing, so getting to work with Meals On Wheels of San Francisco on this project has been an incredible experience. Having heard a few stories from seniors, who have been living their lives for quite some time now, Kaylin hopes that she can look back on her life with perspective and joy. Growing older, she understands, allows people more pictures and memories to draw from and remember. Outside of class, Kaylin is an active member of the USF outdoors club and the school’s sailing team.
