Last November, Brown & Toland Physicians employees rolled up their sleeves and assembled 14,000 servings of lentil casserole for Meals On Wheels of San Francisco’s seniors. We are still hearing back from our clients about how much they loved this delicious gift. The easy-to-make meal came in a bag containing perfectly proportioned amounts of lentils, rice, dried vegetables and Himalayan salt. The bags were created in a partnership with the organization Feeding Children Everywhere. Brown & Toland employees wore hair nets and listened to Mowtown jams as they worked in an assembly line at the company’s corporate office.
Brown & Toland has a long-standing volunteer relationship with Meals On Wheels of San Francisco. Over the years, employees have shared their time and talents in support of homebound seniors. They’ve cleaned homes, delivered meals and assisted with technology issues. One volunteer has even volunteered to wash the beloved dog of an elderly client with poor eyesight.
Nicole Gerace of the Care Management department was elated to participate in the Lentils project. “I donate money to organizations like Heifer International and Doctors Without Borders because I think it’s important to give back. But to do something like this, which was hands-on – something that was very real and not money going into the ether – was very cool,” Gerace said.
