Client Needs Volunteers with Microwaves for Seniors

Home Safety and Urgent Needs volunteers prepare to deliver microwaves and refrigerators to homebound seniors.

We would like to recognize the generosity of SCAN Health Plan for awarding two grants to MOWSF this year through their Community Giving program.

One grant supports meal delivery and nutrition services for seniors, while the second will help MOWSF provide emergency assistance for seniors through the Home Safety & Urgent Needs program. The latter provides microwaves and small refrigerators to help promote food safety, as well as smoke alarms, medication dispensers, grab bars, bath skid protectors, blankets, and other emergency household safety items.

For 35 years, SCAN Health Plan has been focusing on the unique needs of seniors. SCAN is a not-for-profit health plan dedicated to providing comprehensive medical coverage, prescription benefits and support services specifically designed to meet the needs of people on Medicare.  It was founded by a group of seniors who formed the Senior Care Action Network, now known as SCAN Health Plan and based in Long Beach, California.  Today SCAN serves more than 150,000 seniors in Arizona and California.

SCAN’s mission is keeping seniors healthy and independent.  SCAN’s mission aligns well with MOWSF’s belief that all seniors have the right to live independently with dignity and respect in their own homes for as long as it is safely possible.

Thank you to SCAN Health Plan for its generosity and partnership in serving seniors!
