28th Annual Star Chefs & Vintners Gala

Gala funds more than 500,000 meals for seniors

SAN FRANCISCO (March 23, 2015) – James Beard Award-winner Nancy Oakes (Boulevard | Prospect) returns for her 12th year as Gala Chair to lead an extraordinary lineup of Northern California chefs as Meals On Wheels of San Francisco (MOWSF) announces the 28th Annual Star Chefs & Vintners Gala. This year’s Gala will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco.

The Star Chefs & Vintners Gala is a critical source of funding for MOWSF and enables the organization to serve one of the City’s most vulnerable populations – homebound seniors. Last year’s event raised more than $2.6 million – a record amount – and provided 520,000 meals for homebound seniors.

2014 Star Chefs & Vintners Gala“The Gala is truly a collective effort to support our City’s seniors,” says Ashley McCumber, MOWSF Executive Director. “We are proud that, year after year, the finest chefs and vintners in Northern California join together to raise awareness in the fight against senior hunger. Their commitment, along with the support of our guests, patrons, sponsors and volunteers, helps us raise a third of our annual budget. These funds are crucial in enabling Meals On Wheels of San Francisco to meet the needs our city’s growing senior population with nutritious meals, safety checks, social work services and more.”

Schedule of Evening

One hundred notable chefs from Northern California’s top restaurants will join Chef Oakes to create an incredible celebration of food, wine and cocktails. The evening begins at 5 p.m. with an hors d’oeuvre and wine reception, followed by a three-course seated dinner. Each of the 10 seating sections has a unique menu designed by a different executive chef and paired with exceptional wines. Dessert reception and dancing follow. Highlights from the 2014 GalaChefs

This year’s 100 participating chefs include Stuart Brioza and Nicole Krasinksi (The Progress | State Bird Provisions), Josh Even (Tosca Café), Thomas McNaughton (flour + water), Adam Sobel (RN74), Staffan Terje and Laura Cronin (Perbacco Restorante + Bar | barbacco), and Evan and Sarah Rich (Rich Table). Highlights from the 2014 GalaVintners

More than 80 of California’s premier vintners will also participate in the Gala, including BOND, Chateau Montelena Winery, Duckhorn Portfolio, Herb Lamb Vineyards, Levy McClellan, Melka Wines, Peay Vineyards, Realm Cellars, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, Vineyard 29, and Williams Selyem Winery. Cocktails

Steven Liles of Smuggler’s Cove, Greg Lindgren of Rye, and Andrew Meltzer of 15 Romolo will be among those mixing specialty cocktails.

Dessert Reception

The evening culminates with a lavish dessert reception featuring decadent sweets from Mourad Lahlou (Mourad), Jake Godby (Humphry Slocombe), Kara Haspel Lind (Kara’s Cupcakes), Yigit Pura (Tout Sweet Pâtisserie), and William Werner (Craftsman and Wolves), to name a few.

Highlights from the 2014 GalaAuctions

During both live and silent auctions, guests will have the opportunity to bid on extraordinary lot items including luxury vacations and private dinners with celebrity chefs, including a dinner with Nancy Oakes, Gary Danko, Tyler Florence and Yigit Pura cooking together for the first time. The evening’s climax is “Fund-A-Route,” in which guests pledge cash donations towards funding an entire meal delivery route for one year. New this Year!

For the first time, MOWSF has added a Caviar and Champagne Supplement ($3,000), which includes Dom Perignon for tables at our top three levels of patrons. A new level of patron, the Constellation Patron, was also added. Only four of these 10-guest tables, which allowed patrons to choose their own unique menu, were available, and all sold out.
