MOWSF Senior Nina lives by herself. The 78-year-old, who started receiving meals from Meals On Wheels of San Francisco in January, spent this New Year’s Eve in the hospital. As this is usually an extra special holiday in her native Latvia, Nina was sad to spend the evening without any of the usual festivities.
But MOWSF social worker Lara, who converses with Nina in Russian, decided to cheer her up with some presents. Along with a Valentine’s Day gift bag, which contained a hand-knit scarf, card and chocolates, Lara brought her some extra presents left over from the holidays, including warm socks, hand towels, soap, tea and pens. The gifts cheered Nina up!
Since returning from the hospital, where she’d been admitted for fluid in her lungs, Nina has felt weak. She suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure and has very poor vision. She says having nutritious meals delivered to her by a friendly MOWSF driver has been a great help.
