The Breadth and Depth of MOWSF Services:

Meals On Wheels of San Francisco does MUCH more than deliver meals — we nourish the whole person. Honorary Board members are a mainstay of disseminating this message. Here is information to back up this message:

64% of our clients live aloneMOWSF’s Impressive Statistics:

  • MOWSF will serve more than 1.5 million meals in 2015
  • 64% of our seniors live alone.
  • Staff drivers deliver meals and safety checks to 3,200 seniors in neighborhoods across San Francisco.
  • Registered dietitians provide more than 1,900 hours of nutrition counseling each year.
  • Social Workers conduct more than 3,049 visits a year.
  • 64% of our almost $9 million operating budget is raised from community partners — generous individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • 36% of our annual funding comes from The City of San Francisco
  • 84 cents of every dollar we raise goes directly to meal delivery and supportive services.
  • The cost of providing meals for one senior per year is $4,700 — approximately the cost of a one-day stay in the hospital.

20% of our clients receive no other source of foodWe are a local, community-based non-profit:

  • MOWSF is a member of Meals on Wheels America, a national advocacy association. However, we operate independently. We are not a chapter or branch, and we are not funded or operated by a national organization.
  • MOWSF Volunteer Department
    • Matches volunteers with seniors to offer companionship or to help with tasks such as grocery shopping, computer instruction, home cleaning, small repairs and more.
    • Spring Cleaning All Year Round – Groups of volunteers go to seniors’ homes to clean.

96% of our clients self-identify as low income
