WHY: As part of the “Gigwalk for Good” initiative, Gigwalkis partneringwith Meals on Wheels Association of America to help homebound seniors plan and prepare for earthquakes or other emergency situations.

Via a grant from the City of San Francisco, Meals on Wheels SF was able to purchase 1,900 disaster preparedness kits. The kits contain enough food and water to last one person two days and consist of food items that do not require refrigeration and are non-perishable for one year.

In a joint effort to serve the local community, volunteers mobilized through the Gigwalk platform and Gigwalk employees are teaming up with Meals on Wheels SF to deliver the kits to seniors in the San Francisco area. Volunteers will receive special training before distributing the kits so they can share important safety tips with senior recipients.

Additionally, Meals on Wheels SF will be using Gigwalk’s analytics platform on the ground to monitor activity during visits. This will enable Meals on Wheels to gain visibility into productivity to better meet the needs of their elderly clients.
