Meals On Wheels of San Francisco (MOWSF) is committed to the belief that all seniors have the right to live independently with dignity and respect in their own homes for as long as it is safely possible. It is our mission to provide isolated homebound seniors in San Francisco with nutritious meals, daily human contact, and supportive services to prevent their premature institutionalization. MOWSF believes in delivering more than a meal - we nourish the whole person.
MOWSF has a long history of partnership with restaurants, wineries, and others in the food and wine industries throughout the Bay Area. With these partners, we are able to deliver exceptional events, including our annual Star Chefs & Vintners Gala, small wine and food tastings, donor appreciation parties, and other special events.
The Position
MOWSF seeks an enthusiastic and experienced Events Manager to manage all aspects of MOWSF events and oversee beneficiary events and cause marketing. The Events Manager will have a strong background in event planning and project management, work or volunteer experience in non-profit fundraising, familiarity with the San Francisco food and wine industries, and exceptional skill in building relationships with a wide range of existing and potential partners for MOWSF events. The Events Manager reports to the Associate Director of Development Operations and works closely with the Executive Director, Development Director, and other members of the Development Team.
Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of the planning and implementation of MOWSF events, ranging from the annual Star Chefs and Vintners Gala to small donor appreciation and cultivation parties.
- Solicit in-kind contributions for MOWSF events and identify partnership opportunities for wineries, restaurants, and other food, wine, and travel-related businesses.
- Manage all beneficiary events and cause marketing opportunities. Identify new opportunities, maintain relationships, and help to develop strategy for expansion of portfolio.
- Ensure that MOWSF meets overall event revenue goals, develop event budgets, oversee event contract negotiations and monitor expenses to ensure that all events stay on budget.
- Identify volunteer opportunities for all special events. Develop effective mechanisms for the recruitment, training, management and appreciation of event volunteers. Coordinate with MOWSF’s volunteer department as necessary.
- Provide exceptional customer service to donors and partners throughout event planning, management, and follow-up.
- Coordinate with staff, vendors, and contractors on collateral for MOWSF events, including brand management, design, printing, and distribution.
- Manage interns, volunteers, contract and temporary staff in conjunction with events.
- Maintain meticulous records of project timelines, budgets, contacts, and sample materials.
- Other activities and responsibilities as assigned in support of MOWSF development goals.
Qualifications
- Smart, savvy event planner with 5-7 years’ experience
- Work or volunteer experience in non-profit development
- Familiarity with Bay Area food and wine industries
- Exceptional skill in building relationships and strong customer service orientation, as demonstrated through work or volunteer experience in external relations, sales, recruitment, etc.
- Keen eye and enthusiasm for logistical details, excellent problem-solving skills, and passion for a role that draws on your strength in multi-tasking
- Agility in moving between big-picture thinking and hands-on logistics
- Experience with volunteer recruitment and/or management helpful
- Knowledge of cause marketing helpful
- Commitment to the vision and mission of MOWSF and enthusiasm for sharing the work of MOWSF with existing and prospective partners
- Bachelor’s degree
- Ability to attend special events during night and/or weekend hours
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. This is a full-time position with benefits that include generous vacation time, sick leave, 12 paid holidays, employer paid healthcare, dental, vision, and pension plan contributions by employer.
